Tried and True Tips for Perfect Maternity Photos

Other than the "prize" you get at the end of pregnancy (the baby) and maybe the nesting, my favorite thing about pregnancy is taking maternity photos! I am not one of those women who love pregnancy, and I'm fairly certain that the feeling is mutual. Both of my pregnancies have been laced with such atrocities as severe morning sickness, gestational diabetes, rare eye conditions, PUPPS, and high blood pressure, just to name a few lovely occurrences. So, why even schedule a photo shoot if pregnancy is so horrendous, you may ask? Because women are crazy, that's why - and even though I despise almost every second of being pregnant, there will come a time where I will look back on the time fondly (since I am no longer being held captive by the baby who has taken over my body) and be GLAD that I captured pictures of it all. Between the two times I have been pregnant and had maternity pictures done, I have come up with some tips that can help you (hopefully) when you ...

how to be a Pin-up Model - HAIR/MAKEUP

MUAH. No, no.... I'm not blowing you kisses. Or creepy laughing. Or misspelling the word "moi." This fun little acronym is what makes the pin-up world go round.... MAKE UP AND HAIR. I would venture to say that if you are going for the pin-up look and don't know where to put your time/money, hair and make up is where you should put it. If you have fabulous victory rolls and cat eyes and you are wearing it with a simple black dress and some pearls- wa la, instant pin-up. Congratulations, and you're welcome. Same outfit, but plain Jane hair, and congratulations, you look like you are going to court or maybe the library. A really nice library. If I say victory rolls, and you think of someone celebrating with summersaults, then let me help you with a little imagery. How to be a Pin-Up Model - ACCESSORIES/PROPS

Photo by Suzie Bell As promised, I am continuing my blog series on how to be a pin-up model... and tonight, I get to write about one of my FAVORITE things... ACCESSORIES AND PROPS. This, my ladies (and gents if that's what you're into), has the ability to make or break how your photos come out. In addition to the clothing listed in the last post , accessories and props are things that you might not have lying around your house (but you might) and if not, are easily obtainable at a reasonable price (unless you are jones-ing for a really expensive vintage prop). Before I list the aforementioned objects, let me tell you WHY accessories and props are not only necessary but would be down right detrimental if you did not have at least a little something something going on in this department: - What are you going to do with those fabulous hands of yours? Because I guarantee once you are in front of a camera you will all-at-once forget how to do ANYTHING naturally unless you,...

how to be a pin-up model - CLOTHING

In this series of posts, I will cover the basics of becoming a pin-up model... You must realize that in these days, the word "model" conjures up images of waif-like Victoria's Secret models or boyish, lanky ladies wearing strange clothing and a scowl on their face. This is why I LOVE pin-up models... it's about the curves, it's about being feminine, it's about confidence and it's about celebrating who you are. An important piece of this transformation starts with CLOTHING ... Now, depending on your style, you may be surprised to find some of these items already in your closet. Open your closet doors, and take inventory. Take special notice to any of the following: - cardigans (solid colored OR print) - these can totally change a dress or outfit you already have - polka dot anything - animal print anything - stripes (nautical or otherwise) - halter tops or halter dresses - high heels - a-line skirts or dresses - floral print anything - anything w...

Pretty Pretty Pin-Ups

So, let me just say that it was a really amazing experience doing a photo shoot with Pin-Up Photographer Suzie Bell  (the link is to her blog).  It is like waking up on Christmas morning every morning because I get to see if she has posted a new picture from the shoot on Facebook. All of my friends and the fans of Suzie Q's Pin-ups  have been so sweet with their comments. Suzie majorly rocked the house with making all of my ideas become reality. Questions/Comments about the Photo Shoot in No Particular Order: 1. My hair was done by the wonderful Heather Trimble in Cedar Hill at Split Endings Salon. She also did my eye makeup. Love her and it. 2. I now want to dress up really nice, wear things in my hair, curl my hair and wear red lip stick everyday. 3. I want all of my friends to get pin-ups too. It was so fun!!!!!!!!!  4. Talk about a confidence booster. I haven't had many self-loathing negative thoughts lately, and that really says something! 5...
